AUCOTEC brings ECAD capabilities to SolidWorks 2009 software

Software allows designers and engineers to integrate MCAD and ECAD design

AUCOTEC today announced that its solution, Engineering Base, supports SolidWorks® 2009 3D CAD software with new capabilities for MCAD/ECAD integration.

SolidWorks 2009 delivers a host of unique features to help companies design better products more quickly and easily. The software includes more than 260 customer-driven enhancements and significant innovations that break new ground in engineering efficiency. SolidWorks 2009 delivers a dramatic increase in speed, a reflection of an intensive effort focused directly on performance; improved workflow and verification capabilities to improve product quality; numerous drawing improvements; single-window, fully associative integration with all SolidWorks software products and many additional enhancements which directly satisfy customer requests.

A SolidWorks Solution Partner Product, Engineering Base allows users to bridge the gap between electrical and mechanical worlds in design departments and to ensure that the mechanical layout follows exactly the intention of the electrical schematic documents. Currently, consistency of information in electrical circuits and mechanical designs is done manually. The Engineering Solution of AUCOTEC allows users to overcome this time consuming and error-prone process. Integrated configuration functionality allows a full- or semi-automatic build of the initial cabinet layout, also in more than one layer. The databased functionality of the tool enables this. Each modification for equipment in each part of the model has to be done just once and is updated automatically in each document. This is the base for harness design, which is accomplished with the capabilities of SolidWorks Routing. In addition to AUCOTEC’s comfortable 2D cabinet design, any engineer is now able to do the fine adjustment of placements as well as the integration of additional mechanical parts in 3D. Finally he can route connections with large conductor cross-sections outside the cable ducts. A prototype isn’t necessary anymore, this saves expensive material and avoids collision in manufactoring. Thus this kind of cable design on base of accurate data leads to less rework of manufacturing the cabinet due to the exact digital model. Designers and engineers will use Engineering Base and SolidWorks software to combine and ensure integrity of both mechanical and electrical design in, for instance, automated design of cabinets.

“The mechanical machinery and process industry in Germany needs integrated MCAD/ECAD solutions,” said Uwe Burk, Country Manager, Central Europe at DS SolidWorks. “With the market leading solutions from AUCOTEC and SolidWorks and competent partners this is now available.”

“The cooperation with SolidWorks is a logical next step according to our motto, ‘Let's make engineering easy!’ and it supports DS SolidWorks’ aim to supply the overall design process quicker and easier,” adds Uwe Vogt, Executive Board at AUCOTEC AG. “This new integrative solution enables customers to increase the efficiency of their workflow enormously because of its consistent data, time-saving functionality and easy handling.”
